I hooked up the dell to the modem with an Ethernet cable but I just realized that I didn't have the coax cable hooked up to the router. I had to move the router because the cables not long enough.
However there isn't any other place where there is a coax (the kind that is a thicker wire that cones out of the wall.) I have my iPhone hooked up to the router wirelessly. I apologize for any confusion.
I know some about computers but I don't know how to fix this issue. Is there any possibility that I need to have upgrades done on the desktop for this to work?
OK, first off the Cable Modem is the device that has a Coax cable plugged into it from the wall. This is what connects to your TV gives you cable TV and provides internet access as well with on Ethernet port out. Out of this Ethernet port should connect to the Router that has 1 Ethernet input (uplink) port and 4 Ethernet out ports. The router provides wireless internet access too if it is hooked up to the Cable Modem.
If you have wireless internet from your router, that means the Router is hooked up to the C able Modem. Plugging in the computer to the router then would give you internet access to the Dell, if the Network Adapter driver was installed on the Dell.

In the Device Manager are there any devices with yellow flags? If so, these devices need drivers installed. On an internet computer go to the Dell Drivers site and download the Chipset, Network and any other drivers you need and save them to a USB Flash Drive and install them on the troubled computer. Did you follow the instructions in the Quote and see if drivers were needed in the Device Manager? If it's Verizon FiOS and there's a coax line then that coax line would be the WAN connection. The device being connected to would be the wireless-G Actiontec router. It sounds like the PC is connected to the router through ethernet but that the router is not connected to the ONT. The router needs to be re-connected to the ONT through the coax cable.
Either the PC needs to be set up close enough to the router to connect via ethernet cable, a longer cable is needed, or a wireless adapter should be installed. By the way, I've got a few Dell Dimension 3000 desktops and they all came with wireless cards installed. Is there no wireless adapter in this one?
